Raised in Farmington, New Mexico, Shawn-Caulin Young is a director, writer, producer, actor and horseman. His work explores belonging, loyalty and people under pressure.
Background & training
Where it began
His love of story began at home. His mother was fascinated by Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell and horror movies. Tapes sent by his aunt became a childhood collection—a way to encounter lives and worlds beyond his own.
His father’s world of rodeo and horse racing helped shape him as a storyteller and gave him a love of Westerns. Shane, Unforgiven, Dances with Wolves, Lonesome Dove and 1883 speak to what draws him to the genre: grit, the pursuit of justice, and the personal cost of revenge.
Training & craft
The first in his immediate family to graduate college, he earned his BFA in Acting, magna cum laude, from The Hartt School. He trained in England with members of the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
